Dr. Martin Luther King Bean Dip
Nerf bullets are whizzing around me. The boys have the day off school and are in the house playing war with the neighbor kids. I'm preparing a steaming hot bean dip, a dish to share that integrates humble beans, sweet corn, local peppers and onions, salsa and olives. White cheese and black olives mingle together harmoniously. To honor the slain civil rights leader, and wishing all weapons were only Nerf artillery, on top it says "love".

We celebrated by watching the Dukes of Hazzard.
I like the multicultural selection of various-colored corn chips next to the casserole dish. It seems appropriately inclusive.
Are you planning any special dish for Malcolm X's birthday?
I didn't really plan this... it was a spur-of-the-moment thing as I was putting it together. I wanted to make a statement of peace as I was surrounded by all the bullets. I wanted to be able to cram love down people's throats.
I would like to make a special dish for Malcolm X's birthday, which also happens to be Evan's birthday too. Maybe a chicken dish to commemorate his famous line when JFK was assassinated "the chickens have come home to roost."
Evan wants to make a bean dip statement for Malcolm, but we're having a hard time finding something short enough.
